Stung by a sting operation against its officer by unidentified netizen, Goa police chief Bhimsen Bassi claimed that the charges levied in the video footage are `serious,’ but refused to act against his officer involved in it.

"The information is being examined. It will be premature to tell now what action would be taken against the officer," Director General of Police Bhimsen Bassi told a press conference this morning.

He said that the department is guided by certain administrative procedures, which would be adhered to in this case.

Atala (full name not known), an Israeli drug dealer residing in Goa, on a video tape uploaded on youtube.com had confessed that police inspector Ashish Shirodkar, earlier attached to anti narcotic cell (ANC), was supplying him the narcotics stolen from the locker in police custody.

Shirodkar is presently holding charge of the Old Goa police station and joined duty today after a three-day long leave. His seniors however refused to transfer or question him till the afternoon.

The video footage, which is being examined by the police, also shows Atala claiming that the drugs sealed by the court after arresting the drug sellers was stolen by Shirodkar and later pushed back in the market.

The DGP, reacting to the serious allegations, today refused to divulge whether there has been formal inquiry instituted in this matter.

"It's definitely a serious matter. We have taken note of it. We are taking necessary view on it," Bassi said.

He said that any police officer involved with drug peddlers is unacceptable proposition. "We will look into it and if sustainable evidence is found, strict action will be taken," the DGP added.

The controversial footage shows Atala carrying a polythene bag claiming it to be drugs purchased from anti narcotic cell sleuths.

ANC sources confirmed that Atala is an infamous drug peddler, who was earlier arrested in a drug raid during 2005-06.

Both these clippings are available on YouTube.

The first one is named as Atala and his bong.

The second one is Cops from Goa are best friends with police-informer Atala

For every bad thing that happens in the state, the CM should be tagged with it. Nothing happens in the State without the politicians' knowledge. They are aware of each and every thing. What I mean is, for example, if a Don wants to start a brothel somewhere in the state, he definately informs and permits himself through a official Lawman. I doubt i can start a similar funhouse anywhere i want in the state. Take for example the royal family in santacruz. Mother is a minister and the son does extortations. how do you think they are so wealthy? And the Govt is Quite over Shirodkar's Action .... ha ha ha ha . they HAVE to covers such scoundrels. coz somewhere down the line HIS SENIORS have a share to that act.
