Goa-wide lawyers to boycott Lok Adalat, protesting shifting of Panaji courts

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 11 December 2015 23:36 IST

Lawyers across the state have decided to boycott the National Lok Adalat tomorrow in protest of overnight shifting of four Panaji courts to allegedly benefit a BJP-supported builder at a rent that runs into crores of rupees per month.

Lawyers of South Goa, Bicholim and Pernem have come out openly, besides the Goa-based Bombay high court bar association, for a symbolic action tomorrow.

On the other hand, Panaji-based lawyers had a conference call conversation with Chief Justice of Bombay high court on the issue today evening.

As Adv Sachin Desai informed, the Chief Justice of Bombay high court has assured the protesting lawyers to personally talk to North Goa District and Sessions judge B P Deshpande not pass any adverse order till 1 January.

The Panaji lawyers have decided to boycott all the four Panaji courts shifted to the new building owned by Nilesh Amonkar at Patto Plaza in the capital city.

A writ petition was also filed today, challenging the notice of shifting, while praying for interim relief to stop all further shifting and restore the status quo ante.

The petition would be heard on Monday.

In support of these actions, lawyers of South Goa in Margao as well as in Bicholim and Pernem had general body meetings.

The protest is slowly spreading all over Goa and is expected to reach out all the courts of the state.

The courts would have had its own building at the rent that is being paid. In fact the cost would probably be much lower.

And please don't expect Congress or any other politicians to raise such issues. They all are of thr same ilk and sail in the same boat

Great move by lawyers. This builder-politicians nexus should be exposed fully.Unfortunately this eunuch Congress party is quiet on this.
