Mandrekar bursts out, Arlekar-Alina still upset over 'portfolio humiliation'

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 05 October 2015 19:56 IST

One reallocation of portfolios and chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar appears to have created a rift within the party by hurting three of his colleagues – Dayanand Mandrekar, Rajendra Arlekar and Alina Saldanha.

The same notification, which was signed by the Governor, was issued today evening, with new entrant in the cabinet – former Speaker Rajendra Arlekar – listed last in the 12th position.

Mandrekar has in fact come out openly, bursting out against Parsekar’s action of taking away Panchayats from him, without even discussing with him.

“I am not upset with stripping me off Panchayats, I am upset the way it has been done. It’s humiliating. Instead, CM could have removed me from the cabinet”, reported Lokmat, a Marathi daily, quoting him.

In fact he pounced upon Parsekar, stating that he has initiated several works in panchayats, which Parsekar had not bothered to do when he was holding the same portfolio.

In spite of getting Panchayats, Arlekar however is upset since he was not given the portfolios promised to him before stepping down from the VVIP position – education or equivalent to it like PWD or transport.

Education has been retained by CM Parsekar with him while PWD and transport are retained with MGP leader Sudin Dhawalikar, number three minister in the BJP-led coalition.

Instead, Parsekar stripped off Alina Saldanha of her prime portfolios – forest and environment and gave it to Arlekar.

Though upset, Arlekar said he would take charge of the ministries tomorrow and would give justice to what he can.

When asked, he said he would definitely pursue the matter with higher ups in the party and try to get what he was promised while stepping down from the Speaker’s post.

Alina however is still reluctant to comment, stating that she had not yet seen the notification.

Sources close to her however disclosed to that powerful real estate barons had complained to the BJP leadership about Alina not clearing their projects, stating that they were damaging the environment.

Sources close to all the three political bigwigs fully admit that allocating portfolios is the prerogative of the chief minister, but he should have taken them into confidence before this exercise.

Why Parsekar has not followed this democratic practice is still a million dollar question, which remains unanswered. is now on Telegram & also Youtube. Kindly subscribe for free & remain updated.

I fully agree with you Paco. These people we call Ministers if they have any dignity, 'like grabbing any crumbs the 'boss' throws around and also takes the same away and gives to others, should resign NOW. Alina think about this. If you use your cards right, you can get easily re-elected from Cortalim, provided you take your constituents into confidence and act "as per their wishes". Once elected you can then give your ISSUE BASED SUPPORT to any party capable of forming the government. You HAVE TO do this in memory of your late husband Matanhy whose joining the communal BJP most of Goans cannot fathom till this day.

They should be happy to be there in that position, look around in Goa, many qualified people are jobless, these people are very lucky.

Those who are upset and those who have guts should resign and go home. Most of these guys are upset as their illegal income will go down as they will have a few ministries to handle.
