Striking similarities between murders of Dabholkar-Panasare-Kalburgi

The investigations into the murder of Professor MM Kalburgi has reached Maharashtra. The Karnataka and Maharashtra police will work together to find out if the murder of Professor Kalburgi, Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare are in any way linked.

Although the two states will not carry out a joint probe into the matter, it has been decided that information will be shared.

The Karnataka CID which has formed four teams has already sent a batch of officers to Maharashtra.

Striking similarities:

The CID says that there are similarities in the murders of Kalburgi, Dabholkar and Pansare.

We are not sure if it is the same set of people who have carried out the murder. However the thought process appears to be the same a senior officer added while saying that the killers had been hired.

It is too early to come to any sort of conclusion, but we are probing every angle, the officer also informed.

The officer also informed that all other angles into the case including personal reasons are also being probed.

Eye witness was warned:

The police have learnt from the eye witness that he had been warned by the killers.

A gardner who was working in the house next to that of Professor Kalburgi's came out to the streets when he heard gun shots. He came face to face with the shooters, but was warned by them to go back inside.

The eye witness says that he saw two persons getting on to the bike and speeding away.

The CCTV footage obtained by the police also shows the two bikers speeding away before signaling to someone inside a car as if to indicate that the job had been done.

The police have however not managed to obtain a clear picture through the footage.

The footage is blurry and the police say that even the vehicle number is not clear.

We are working on the leads, the officer informed.

No CBI probe as yet:

The Karnataka government which handed over this case to the CID had also indicated at a Cabinet meet two days back that they are considering roping the CBI in.

It was decided that they would write to the CBI asking the agency whether it could take up the case or not.

The government is yet to write to the CBI. Sources say that the government wants the CID to probe for some more time before it could ask the CBI to take over the probe in this case.
