The MARG Trust will hold a state level conference on Civic Sense and Citizenship on 26 May in Panaji.

Around 250 delegates are expected to attend the one-day meet at Sanskruti Bhavan in the state capital.

“Youth of today should groom themselves to be citizens of today, not tomorrow. For success of democracy, we need citizens and not just voters”, said Gurunath Kelekar, the convenor of MARG.

Addressing a press conference, Kelekar said: “a citizen asserts rights and performs duties. But there are no short cuts to responsible and good governance.”

The Conference would seek to deliberate on the issues to take the next step forward by establishing an Institute of Citizenship and Civic Sense in our homeland, Goa.

Fr. Mouzinho Athaide will preside over the day-long conference, with four major sessions.

Dr Madhavi Sardesai will initiate the session on “Punnea Bhumi Goem” followed by inputs from Rajani Bhembre, Aditi Faldesai, Kamal Parsekar, Krishni Walke and Maya Gaonkar.

Elaborate sessions on “Civic Sense & Citizenship” would see interactions with Dr Sushila Sawant Mendes, Gurudas Samant, Tavishi Gaonkar, Patricia Pinto, Dr Uday Nagarcekar, Jose Maria Miranda, Anuradha Naik, Dilip Prabhudesai, Uday Sardesai, Tomazino Cardozo, Adv Satish Sonak and Adv Prasad Shahapurkar.  

A concept note on a formal organisation to provide training to students and youth in civic sense and citizenship would be presented by Anand Madgaonkar, Prabhakar Timble and Jairam Gaonkar.
