Six MLAs ride to the Assembly, with helmets

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 12 April 2013 19:50 IST

Six young legislators, including four who violated traffic rules last week, came to the Assembly today on their bikes, wearing helmets.

The action of nine young MLAs coming on five fancy Bullet motorcycles last Friday, without wearing helmets, from a national highway was condemned statewide.

Four of them – fisheries minister Avertano Furtado, BJP MLA Carlos Almeida, Goa Vikas Party MLA Mickky Pacheco and independent MLA Rohan Khaunte – came to the Assembly on their bikes today, wearing helmets.

The other two were independent MLAs - Benjamin Silva from Velim and Naresh Sawal from Bicholim.

Cuncolim BJP MLA Rajan Naik also accompanied them as a pillion., in its EdiThought “Don’t fine the VIP riders; Sudin-bab” had suggested that all these MLAs should come once again to the Assembly on their bikes with helmets, in case they had realised their mistake.

“We realized our mistake and decided to correct it”, said Furtado, when they arrived together at the Assembly complex.

Silva had in fact tried to justify the law-breaking action of their colleagues, claiming that they deliberated decided to come without helmets in order to highlight the need to wear helmets, after the Assembly delbierated on the issue with concern.

“Use your brains. People have elected you because you have brains”, chief minister Manohar Parrikar had then told them in the House, when Silva tried to justify the action in this manner.

“We came today wearing helmets to pose an example to the younger generation”, Khaunte told

He also said they have paid fine for breaking the law and people should now realise that even the MLA is not spared if the traffic rules are violated. is now on Telegram & also Youtube. Kindly subscribe for free & remain updated.

I am still not sure , what purpose the MLA`s have served riding to the Legislature ,as a GANG & on their Bikes.

Has anything positive come of this action? Has it served Goa & Goans in any way?

Are these guys serious (rule breaking) Politicians or just a bunch of POSEURS, acting like a high a school infantile (Kids).

I am aware Mickky Pacheco has had a stunted growth.

He is unlikely to achieve adulthood mentally.

Many of his actions are but "juvenile".

He was part of a Hispanic Gang during his notorious stay in the USA.

But its the others that puzzle me.
