Two members of the Chhota Rajan gang have been arrested for their alleged role in the firing that killed the driver of Iqbal Kaskar, brother of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, police said today.

Umed Ul Rehman (27), a sharpshooter and active member of Rajan's gang, and his associate Aasid Jaan Mohammed Shaikh (41) were apprehended from Arambol beach area in Goa yesterday and were brought to the city today and subsequently placed under arrest, said Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy.

Eleven mobiles were seized from the two, who were hiding in the coastal state since the firing, police said, adding that Rehman was constantly in touch with Rajan.

"Rehman played an active role in the conspiracy that led to the firing," Roy said, refusing to elaborate his role.

"Rehman also had plans for some more targets. With his arrest, we prevented major crimes," Roy said.

With this, the number of arrests in the case rose to six.

Two gunmen had fired outside Kaksar's residence on Pakmodia street in South Mumbai on May 17, killing Kaskar's bodyguard-cum-driver Arif Syed Abu Bukha. Kaskar was not present at the site when the incident happened.

Two shooters Syyed Ali (29), a resident of Mumbai, and Indra Khatri (27), possibly from Nepal, had earlier been arrested from near J J Hospital.

On May 25, two more accused, Abdul Rashad Shaikh (21) and Adnan Idaayad Sayyed (21), who had allegedly shown the target -- Kaskar's driver Bukha -- to the two shooters, were arrested.

Police sources said that Rehman, wanted in several other cases, was the man who provided weapons, financed the shooters and arranged their stay in the city and guided them to the spot in Pakmodia street.

Rehman and Aasid Jaan were present near the crime scene at the time of firing, the sources added.

According to police, soon after the arrest of the two shooters on the same day of the incident, the duo claimed that they were given a contract by one Rehman.

"The two shooters were referring to the same Rehman," officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of five policemen from Crime Branch's property cell had camped at Goa since Monday and traced the two yesterday, said officials.

Replying to a query, Roy said, "The reason as to why Bukha was killed and if Bukha was the target or somebody else would be known only after detailed interrogation of Rehman."

Rehman is also the prime accused in the murder of Zahid Ghulam Hassan Mir alias Chhote Miyan, who was shot dead along with his nephew by unknown assailants in Nagpada on July 29, 2010. Chhote Miyan was allegedly involved in gambling and illegal cricket betting.

Rehman was also involved in an attack on underworld don Chhota Shakeel's man Asif Dadi in Bhendi Bazaar on February 13.
