Parrikar demands arrest of crime branch officer

PTI, PANAJI | 17 March 2010 20:15 IST

The Crime Branch officer, who is reluctant to arrest Police Inspector Ashish Shirodkar in police-drug peddler nexus case, should be arrested for connivance with the accused, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded today.

"Ashish Shirodkar is getting royal treatment in the crime branch, which is investigating the entire nexus. If the investigating officer continues to avoid arresting him, he himself should be jailed for connivance," leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar said today.
Shirodkar is in the dock after alleged Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala confessed on spy camera that he (Shirodkar) was selling him drugs stolen from the court lockers. Along with Shirodkar, four other policemen were also suspended in the case, which had exposed the police drug peddler nexus.
Crime Branch's deputy superintendent of police Chandrakant Salgaoncar is probing the case. He has taken Atala into the police custody.
Parrikar said there is a strict guideline by the Supreme court that the inquiry against any police officer should not be conducted by the state police themselves.
"The case should have been handed over to some other agency which can conduct impartial inquiry into it," the BJP leader added.
"There must have been more than five policemen involved in the entire offence. There will be 20 to 25 policemen in the nexus," he alleged.
The state has already filed first information report (FIR) against Ashish Shirodkar, former inspector of anti narcotic cell (ANC) and constable Saish Pokle.
Both are under suspension and have approached the court with their anticipatory bail petition which will come up for hearing tomorrow on March 17. is now on Telegram & also Youtube. Kindly subscribe for free & remain updated.

Yes Joe (Ganja), what you say is absolutely right. All these guys will retire and surely they must be regreting the arrest of ATALA. This Chandrakant Salgaoncar is a big crook himself and will destroy all the evidence as I am hundred percent sure that he has already received his share of brive. He is the biggest crook in the Goa Police Department much bigger that Ashish and his gang - Menino (Valpoi).

....If the Dy.SP Chandrakant Salgaocar cannot issue warrant and ARREST PI ASHISH Shirodkar, then WHY HOLD Mr. Yaniv Benaim ( ATALA) ??? Release him as well, let him also wait for the probe to Finish of Dy.SP........ then later they can decide WHETHER to ARREST ANYBODY??? because there is a VERY BIG VISONN (King Fish) in that Circle and now they are only TAKING TIME to STUDY & PLAN( How To Save That Big Fish?). Because they KNOW very well that Mr. ATALA the GREAT will SPEAK, VOMMIT and DISCLOSE everything when the CASE Starts..... So they are thinking and repenting NOW as to WHAT a BIG MISTAKE they did and WHY they ARRESTED Mr. Atala??? thing is, when everytime they see Mr. Atala, they find him always RELAXED and TENSION FREE even though he is being arrested!!! But the Police Personnels look to be TIRED and with HYPERTENSION!!! Let us wait and watch for the Decission to come till one day everybody involved will be RETIRED from their SERVICE and will Start Getting Pension.

Reason for Corruption:

1. People are trying to live beyond their means... everyone wants a lavish lifestyle.

2. Less Education but want to earn more money

3. Easy to Bribe the system and get a position and then recover this money by exploiting the common Man.

4. We as common man are responsible for this state .. bcoz even though few of us think that we should follow the rightful path .. there is a large underdeveloped part of the society which thinks absolutely apart. They think Corruption is a way of Life.

Anyways Good work Mr Parrikar ... at least there is someone in the Assembly who reads rules and regulations

If you read about Kali Yuga in the Hindu Scriptures .. seems like every word is true.

The judicial system takes more than 320 years to clear the backlog of the pending cases, the CBI and the other investigating agencies don't enjoy full autonomy, the departments like the IT dept, shows little interest to investigate the ill gotten wealth of numerous Madhu Kodas of the Indian politics, The Election Commission too is happy with the assets returns filed by the candidates and does not have necessary teeth to investigate and disqualify the corrupt candidates, there is no effective law to stop the corrupt and criminals from entering the Parliament, and this is the story of our Great democracy!

I would really support Mr. Parrikar on this issue. What Parrikar has said is absolutely right. As an ex-Cop (Goa Police) I know this Chandrakant Salgaoncar. He is a dirtiest Police officer in the history of Goa Police. I know him since he was a PSI. He was posted in Valpoi and I was posted at the Margao Town Police Station. I shall tell the public one incident that I can never forget and will never be erased from my mind about this fellow Chandrakant Salgaoncar.

One of the Police Constables (now retired), a native of Valpoi, was attached to the Dog Seciton and on active duty. One night this Constable Santiago Pedro Fernandes was attacked by some local goondas at about 9 PM in darkness and beaten up badly. They snatched his gold chain worth Rs. 20,000 then in the year 1983 and all his cash and whatever he had. These were our local catholic boys. He identified all of them and this incident occurred with the blessing of Chandrakant Salgaoncar, who was offered the chain as a token of help by the goondas. Thus he covered up the case easily.

I tried a lot to get the accosters punished; I even had the news flashed on all the Goan newspapers in circulation then, including Herald, but in vain. The news appeared in all the newspapers but no action was being taken. Such is this man known as chandrakant salgaoncar.

And as such, I know and that whatever Mr. Parrikar has said above is hundred percent the right thing. Mr. Parrikar has my full support to expose this Chandrakant Salgaoncar. Please make sure that this comment of mine is flashed without any sensors as I am not afraid of this guy and have enough knowledge of his wrong doings. Mr. Parrikar, you are absolutely right…I am fully with you because what you have said is absolutely right – Menino (Valpoi)
