Don't promote Family Raj in Cong; but not Ranes, Monserattes: Vishwajeet
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 09 September 2016 20:41 IST
And he has his own justification for this.
“I got Congress ticket because I resigned as an independent MLA and came back to the Congress. I was assured the seat. There are also Babush and Jennifer Monseratte. Apart from these, I don’t think this Family Raj issue should be taken far forward”, he told a media conference today.
Though Goan voter rejected Family Raj in 2012 election by defeating all 4 candidates of Alemao Family and two of Ravi Naik family.
But the voters also elected father-son Pratapsing and Vishwajeet Rane as well as husband-wife Babush and Jennifer Monseratte in the same election.
According to Junior Rane, Congress should conduct internal survey and judge on the basis of practical situation in the constituency, what voter feels and what work which person has done.
“We should go by the will of the people. Let the people decide. Congress should decide it on the basis of an independent survey”, he suggested.
According to him, the perception of the people is created because tickets are given to certain types of people, he said, but did not elaborate whom he was referring to.
“If people want certain people to be eliminated, then let the party take a decision in this regard. We should all respect it”, he added.
At the same time, he said the party also needs some seniors.
“You cannot say all the seniors should retire”, he said.
Continuing further, he said he is not sure whether both Ranes would contest once again.
“Let Pratapsing Rane decide whether he wishes to contest once again”, he said.
Rane, in 2012, had told his voters that it would be his last election.
The opposition leader is presently the oldest member of Goa Assembly, who has consistently won 10 elections from Sattari and has also held positions of chief minister and the speaker.
However, when asked recently, 77-year old Rane did not repeat the 2012 assurance but preferred to leave it to the party to decide on his 11th tenure.
