We can’t wait for Cong till Sept to form Grand Alliance: Vijai

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 19 July 2016 22:18 IST

Vijai Sardesai, the promoter of Grand Alliance against the ruling BJP, has decided to go ahead with his plans without waiting for the Congress.

Congress, whom he always called a senior player, has decided to take a final decision regarding joining the anti-BJP Grand Alliance only after 30th September.

“We have no time to wait for the Congress any more. We are going ahead with our plan”, he told the media today.

Congress, Goa’s main opposition party, had a meeting of its cadres and leaders from block to state level yesterday.

The party is going ahead with its plan to shortlist the potential candidates from all the 40 constituencies.

Rohan Khaunte, his independent partner form Porvorim, has also backed Vijai’s announcement to go ahead with the alternate plan.

Khaunte however feels the attitude adopted by the Congress would ultimately benefit the BJP.

Jose Philip D’Souza, the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party, also expressed similar feelings.

The Congress is not even in a mood to align with the NCP, whom they had aligned with in the last election.

This is just a trailor, picture to abhi baki hai”, Vijai said, while once again criticising the Congress for remaining as a dormant opposition in the last four years.

The Fatorda MLA however also admits that it would be little difficult to go ahead with the plan of Grand Alliance in the absence of Congress.

But he has not given up hopes. In fact he now wants to expedite the move of bring together the anti-BJP forces to fight the election as one entity.

Goa Forward, the regional party he has initiated, is now expected to take a lead in forming the grand alliance of like-minded parties and politicians.
