Drop 5 ministers or strip them off, demands BJP Michael
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 04 June 2016 21:17 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party’s award-winning legislator Michael Lobo wants at least five of his ministers to be dropped, to win next election. If not, he is demanding to take away their crucial portfolios.
A demand in this direction, he reveals, was made yesterday at the legislative party meeting held in the Assembly complex.
“Voters are not fools. They know who works and who doesn’t. But the inefficiency of these ministers would affect all of us”, Lobo told Goa365 TV channel today.
He said he had made this demand little before defence minister Manohar Parrikar resigned as Goa chief minister and went to New Delhi.
“Our new chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar had an opportunity to take steps in this direction when he took over. But he didn’t. And now we are facing problems”, Lobo said.
The Calangute MLA however refused to name even one of these ministers.
“People of Goa know who these ministers are. They work only for their constituency and neglect the rest of Goa”, he said.
He also said his long-made demand was echoed at the meeting yesterday while expecting Parsekar to move in this direction.
“If you can’t drop them now, strip them off their portfolios so that at least we can get our developmental works done”, he suggested.
Among the 13-member cabinet, the BJP has nine ministers, besides two Dhawalikar brothers of the MGP and independent Avertano Furtado.
According to him, the BJP should have replaced these inefficient ministers with young MLAs who are enthusiastic and energetic to work for Goa.
Though he also refused to name his five young colleagues, sources said the names suggested were Dr Pramod Sawant, Subhash Phaldesai, Kiran Kandolkar, Nilesh Cabral and Carols Almeida.
“I don’t want to be a minister. I am interested in my constituency work”, he claimed.
While speaking to the TV channel, Lobo also criticized CM Parsekar and fisheries minister Avertano Furtado for not handling the Ramponkars' agitation efficiently.
He has also demanded that the officers responsible for lathicharge on Ramponkar be suspended, pending magisterial inquiry into the incident.
“I was in Australia at that time, otherwise this lathicharge would have been avoided. No coastal MLA came forward to mediate between the government and the Ramponkar”, he said.
