Alliance means joining Congress, Luizinho’s new definition

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 May 2016 21:26 IST

Goa Congress chief Luizinho Faleiro has found a new definition for Gatbandhan; means Alliance.

According to him, alliance means joining the Congress party (not joining hands with other like-minded parties).

Faleiro had earlier rejected the proposal of Grand Alliance, mooted by independent MLA Vijai Sardesai, who has also floated a political outfit – Goa Forward.

The occasion today was 11 office bearers of the Nationalist Congress Party, including former president Nilkanth Halarnkar and senior vice president Trajano D’Mello, joining the Congress.

The function was held at the Congress House.

In the last Assembly election, the Congress had an alliance with the NCP.

“This is the real Gatbandhan what we are talking about. All the like-minded secular politicians come together under the banner of the Congress”, said Faleiro.

“Some people talk of alliance. This is that alliance”, he said, while also alleging that these ‘some people’ are not allowing others to join the Congress.

Comparatively, opposition leader Pratapsing Rane was little sober in his speech. He appealed to all the anti-BJP forces to come together to defeat the ruling saffron outfits.

D’Mello said they had decided to merge themselves into the Congress, whom they always considered a big brother.

“There is no difference between the ideology of the Congress and the NCP. That’s why we decided to join the Congress”, he said.

Halarnkar also said they have come together under the banner of secularism to provide a stable government to Goa.
