Aam Aadmi Party in Goa will celebrate Women’s Day tomorrow in a unique manner, with over 100 women joining the party, including celebrities.
The party, which emerged through the nationwide struggle of India Against Corruption, has started spreading its tentacles in Goa after sweeping Delhi elections twice.
“AAP women are not just getting involved in politics but leading from the frontlines”, says Rajeshree Nagarsekar, a journalist-turned-politician and convenor of AAP Goa.
Some prominent names thrown up by AAP, who are joining the young party, include professional choreographer Cecille Rodrigues, educationist and writer Aldina Gomes, Tiatrist Chitra Shirwaikar, educationist Maria Rodrigues, writer Savia Viegas, Dr Hemali Desai and entrepreneur Sharon D’Silva.
To mark the entry of women from diverse fields, the AAP has organised a function tomorrow, 8 March, at Nanutel in Margao at 5 pm.
Suhani Shah, a celebrated life coach, illusionist and author, is also running a social media campaign called #WomenWithAAP in Goa, profiling women in AAP.
The party had earlier unsuccessfully contested 2014 Lok Sabha election in Goa, securing not more than 3 to 4 per cent votes.
The AAP also plans to contest forthcoming Goa Assembly election.
