CM’s supporters in Mandrem make it Coconut v/s Mopa

It’s becoming coconut v/s Mopa now, with Chief Minister’s party organisation from Mandrem coming out straight against anti-Mopa politicians like Vijai Sardesai.
The Mandrem Mandal committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party today lashed out at Sardesai and his Maad Yatra held in Pedne on Sunday, at a press conference held at Agarwada in CM’s constituency.
“South Goa’s political leaders opposing Mopa airport need not come to Pedne and misguide the people on coconut issue”, said Ramesh Shet Mandrekar, president of the BJP Mandal Committee of Mandrem constituency.
He also condemned former Dhargal MLA Babu Azgaonkar for coming to Pedne, joining hands with the South Goa leaders, who always oppose any project that would provide employment to the youth of Pedne.
ZP member Arun Bankar asked why Sardesai did not accept the challenge given by CM Parsekar to start his Maad Yatra from his Harmal residence, where he has grown coconut trees in the commercial zone.
While welcoming the bill amending the Preservation of Trees Act, Mandrekar said it has brought sigh of relief to the coconut growers, who had to face lots of difficulties while cutting the coconut trees, which were endangering people’s lives.
“If coconut trees were getting cut rampantly, then the coconut growers should have come forward to oppose the bill, not the ones who build their houses by cutting coconut trees”, commented Jagannath Parsekar, another local BJP leader.
To misguide the people on coconut issue, Santosh Shetgaonkar said these leaders went to the extent of telling blatant lies to the people that the government has termed coconut tree is grass.
“This is more than enough for the people to realise that these leaders want only to misguide the people on the issue and not at all interested in protecting the coconut tree”, he alleged.
The press conference was attended by local BJP leaders and supporters in full strength, including Agarwada Sarpanch Shashikala Damaji and many ex-sarpanchas.
