Break ties with BJP, demand MGP central committee members

Will the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party continue with its alliance in the forthcoming Assembly election? They are not sure at this stage.

The MGP central committee meeting held today turned out to be stormy on the issue of continuing its alliance with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Senior members of Goa’s oldest party felt that the party needs to review poor performance of the BJP-led government as well as the frequent U turns on most of the promises made during 2012 election.

Dipak Dhawalikar, the MGP president and a minister, confirmed that decision regarding the alliance would be taken only between three to six months before the Assembly election is announced.

Though he refused to disclose anything what transpired in the stormy meeting held today, the junior Dhawalikar however did not deny the fact that some people had raised objection regarding alliance.

“We will start going to the cadres as well as voters from March to gauge the public response before taking a final decision regarding the alliance”, he told goanews.com.

But why?

Highly placed sources in the MGP disclose that the general feeling among majority central committee members is similar: “The BJP not only used the MGP for its own benefit, but insulted its members time and again.”

These included the central committee members as well as both the Dhawalikar brothers, who also attended todays’ meeting along with Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar.

The major insult, they feel, is stripping Dipak of co-operation portfolio while not replacing it with another ‘lucrative’ portfolio, in spite of assurance.

The second one was a recent incident where recruitment proposal of almost 300 posts in Sudin Dhawalikar’s PWD ministry was dropped last minute by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.

One of the CC member also told goanews.com that both the CMs – Manohar Parrikar and Parsekar – did not offer a single post of a corporation chairman or even a director to the central committee members, but only repeated empty promises.

Issues like failure of the BJP government to arrest those involved in mining scam as well as shifting casinos out of River Mandovi were also raised at the meeting, disclosed sources.

Its advantageous for MGP to go alone so that it is free to tieup with any party or group post election.
