Truck transport begins tomorrow; but strictly for e-auctioned ore!

After over a month, the mining trucks will start operating the iron ore of Sesa Goa from tomorrow, but only the e-auctioned ore.
“We will not allow transportation of fresh ore unless Sesa Goa agrees with our rates”, said Nilkanth Gawas, president of All Goa Truck Association.
He is however happy that the Sesa company has paved a way to start ore transportation from tomorrow, from Codli mine to Amone jetty.
The issue of Bicholim truck owners however is yet to be resolved as they are demanding Rs 13 per tonne per km to transport Sesa’s iron ore from Bicholim mine to Sarmanos jetty.
Sesa Goa has agreed to pay the AGTA truckers Rs 11.10 per tonne per km from Codli mine to Amone jetty, a distance of around 33 kms.
Sesa is left with 6.75 lakh tonnes of e-auctioned iron ore, most of which is at Codli mine.
“In addition, we have recently purchased 6 lakh tonnes more”, said A N Joshi, vice president (communications) of Sesa Goa, while hoping that the striking truckers will actually bring their trucks on road to transport the ore.
After holding the meeting today with the AGTA members at Usgao, Gawas told goanews.com that they are withdrawing the strike since Sesa has agreed not to hire 231 ‘outside’ trucks but the local trucks on the Codli-Amone route.
He has however rejected government proposal to ply trucks till 10 pm.
“We don’t want to make money at the cost of lives of our own people. Our trucks will run between 8 am to 6 pm” he said.
Gawas is surprised at the anti-people stand of the BJP, which had supported the people to stop truck transport beyond 6 pm when mining was booming and the ruling party was in opposition in 2011.
After the first round of talks with Bicholim truckers held today did not bear any fruits, the company officials have decided to have the second round either on Saturday or Monday.
“We have very little potion of iron ore in Bicholim. We can tackle the issue differently”, Joshi said.
While the truckers are still demanding more rate for fresh ore Sesa would extract, Joshi feels truckers should agree with the three-slab formula suggested by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
The Sesa Goa however does not know when they would begin actual mining in their leases while truckers are firm that they would not allow to transport it unless same rate is paid to them.
