Ignoring Elano’s arrogance would encourage it, Dattaraj cautions organisers

Ignoring Chennaiyin FC captain Elano Blumer's aggressive behaviour would be tantamount to encouraging such arrogance of football players, co-owner of FC Goa Dattaraj Salgaoncar has cautioned the Indian Super League organisers.

He feels he was left with no option but to file an FIR against Elano for assaulting him and refrain the team from attending the awards ceremony.

Salgaoncar has reacted in the background of mixed reactions for their act from the football fans all over the world while the ISL as well as All India Football Federation have condemned his act.

In a statement posted on social media, Salgaoncar stated as follows:

“I was going to our dugout to wish our players. So it was absolutely shocking to be physically assaulted and verbally abused by the Chennai captain, Elano, in our dugout after the game.  

Such arrogance and unwarranted, unprovoked aggression is unacceptable, particularly from the captain of a team.

It should not be tolerated and as he did not apologise nor were the officials taking any action to remove him from the ground as normally is done worth such an assault , I had no option than to file an FIR and we refrained from the awards ceremony.

I got into the ISL not as a businessman but  because of the love of the game of football, which was inculcated by my father from a young age.

Salgaoncar Football Club is 59 years old.  More importantly, Baba (Srinivas) Dempo and I wanted to place Goa as a key player on the football map, knowing the passion Goans have for the beautiful game.

It has always been our policy , coach Zico and the entire team at FC Goa, to cultivate a spirit of professionalism and good sportsmanship.

FC Goa is a team all football lovers and Goans love . It has united Goa and I am most grateful for the love and support of all our fans .

We may have lost the finals, but we have won the hearts of our fans and all football lovers .

We are never sore losers and take every setback to bounce back and never stay down in the true spirit of the game.”

Similarly ignoring the arrogance of Goa FC owners is unacceptable. Ban Goa from hosting ISL matches for a year and / or kick out Salgocar out of ISL. He can go back to i-League.
