Suraj Party shows black flags, mourns death of democracy
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 19 December 2015 18:55 IST

With Assembly election hardly a year ahead, the Bharatiya Janata Party government today faced a symbolic black flag demonstration while celebrating Goa Liberation Day in the capital city.
Panaji police arrested two young workers of Goa Suraj Party for showing black flags while the national flag was unfurled at the Campal Grounds at the official function today morning.
According to police, GSP president Florian Lobo later confirmed that they were ‘mourning the death of democracy’, which has been trampled during the BJP rule.
The two boys are Zico Xavier of Panaji and Ashburn Pereira of Alto Porvorim.
Both of them, dressed formally, entered the main block of VIPs and suddenly brought out black flags when Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was unfurling the national flag.
Lobo later told the police that the symbolic protest was aimed at the government’s failure to grant special status to Goa, scrap the Regional Plan 2021 and several such assurances which the BJP government had failed to fulfil.
The Panaji police have arrested them under 151 CrPC as preventive detention.
They would be produced before the magistrate tomorrow, said Panaji PI Siddhant Shirodkar.

This U-Turn Government needs to be shown black flags on every day basis. The coming Sunday Solidarity Pilgrimage to Naqueri in Betul at the site of the DefExpo to coincide with the OPA public meet agains DefExpo should see nothing but black flags flying.
Goa is being excessively militarized and our CM wants us Goans to set up stalls to sell ice creams and batat-wadas n samosas during this Expo. What temerity for a Goenkar to tell other Goenkars.
Zico and Asburn are GSRP's heroes who stood standing at attention to respect the National Flag and at the same time PROTEST that it was no LEBERATION bu subjucation through the U-turn Raj of this present government. Those who insulted the National Flag are the people who are responsible to see that the National Flag is not undermined, the police themselves who should have been standing at attention until the National Anthem was ended. But in their Nationalistic fervour they chose to make a commotion and a mockery of the National Anthem.
