Let Cong give hiked rates to truckers; I’ll wait till then: CM

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has suddenly backed out from resolving the issue of striking mining truckers, stating that let the opposition Congress resolve the issue.
He has also refused to give any more concessions to the truck owners as a solution to the ongoing issue of transportation rates.
The CM also postponed his plan to have a meeting with Sesa Goa today to find an amicable solution.
“If they (Congress) feel capable of resolving the issue, let them do it. I’ll be very happy”, said Parsekar while talking to goanews.com.
The Congress had made a scathing attack on the government for its failure in resolving the issue of striking truck owners and resuming mining activity in Goa.
Parsekar appeared to be more upset with Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Luizinho Faleiro announcing an experts’ committee, claiming that CM had agreed to it.
Faleiro had made the announcement after meeting the CM day before yesterday.
“They are behaving as though we have done nothing to resume mining and resolve the issue of striking truck owners”, said Parsekar.
According to him, the issue has become crucial since the miners are facing a crash in the international prices of iron ore while truckers are facing the increased price of diesel and other variables.
He has however flatly refused to accept the proposal of subsidy on diesel to compensate the truck owners.
“We have given them more than enough, the financial assistance for 18 months and writing off their interest on their bank loans. What more do they need”, he asked.
Parsekar also sounded upset because the same opposition, who is now supporting the striking truck owners, was criticising the government for giving them compensation.
“I have been working on mining resumption for the last one year and trying to find a solution on transportation rate for the last three month. But if the opposition feels we are doing nothing, I’ll wait till they find a solution”, he said.
Parsekar also claimed that he is still more worried about the welfare of the truck owners and other mining dependents.
“Mining companies are capable enough of taking care of their problems. But we have to think about the others”, he said.
