What morale Parrikar has to celebrate 60? asks Cong
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 06 December 2015 21:53 IST
If he really believes in morality, then defence minister Manohar Parrikar should cancel the maga-bash of his 60th birthday and send Rs 20 crore to the Chennai flood victims and mining sufferers of Goa, feels the opposition Congress.
All India Congress Committee secretary Girish Chodankar asked what morale the nation’s minister has to celebrate completion of 60 years on 13 December when people in Chennai are struggling to live.
“He had promised Parivartan (transformation) in 2012 election, but sadly his birthday bash shows that Parrikar has made a Parivartan of himself”, quipped Chodankar while addressing a press conference.
Recalling the projection of Parrikar on the grounds of morality and simplicity, he said the same Parrikar is today having a mega bash when the entire nation is focussing on relief operations of Chennai floods.
“How can he have such celebrations when hundreds of people are dead, many are missing and thousands are thirsting for potable water in Chennai”, asked Chodankar.
He also claimed that hundreds of poor people are made jobless, many of whom have sold everything for survival, while many have no two meals a day due to closure of mining in his Goa state.
The young Congressman also reminded the people how Parrikar had marketed himself, stating that he is against any kind of birthday celebrations while the same person is now projected by mobilising 50,000 people and spending around Rs 15 to 20 crore.
“In fact Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and his ministers are wasting ‘state time’ for mobilising a private birthday celebration”, he charged.
Celebration for what Mr Parrikar?
In a press conference, Chodankar raised four pertinent questions, asking whether Parrikar is celebrating for the following reasons:
A) During his term as the defence minister, there have been over 900 ceasefire violations and cross border infiltrations as well as over hundred heavy mortar shelling at the border. Many army men, police and civilians are killed in Gurudaspur attack on 27 July and in Udhampur on 5 August. Is the defence minister celebrating these achievements?
B) Goa’s Bahujan Samaj reposed full faith in Parrikar while in return he destroyed them by closing mines as well as traditional businesses like sand extraction, laterite stone etc. Is this felicitation for destroying Bahujan Samaj?
C) is this felicitation for closing mining in Goa and recovering Rs 35,000 crore?
D) Goa was financially strong during Congress regime while it now runs on loans. Is this a celebration of pushing down the economy?
