They did it. Only two of them, but managed to register their protest at the IFFI inaugural. The voice against FTII political appointment was heard large enough in the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium.

And it was heard by Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley, his state minister Rajyawardhan Rathore, defence minister Manohar Parrikar and all the I&B ministry officials.

The two students found an empty block on top, where they were seated silently till the whole inaugural ceremony ended.

After chief guest and film star Anil Kapoor spoke, both the students of Film and Television Institute of India got up with posters in the hand and shouted slogans.

The security guards rushed at them and took them away.

In a way, the striking FTII students listened to the appeal of the officials and did not disrupt the inaugural ceremony, but registered their protest almost when the whole function was over.

The FTII students had been striking for almost 139 days since 12 June, protesting the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's director.

The strike was called off on 29 October, stating that their protests would continue.

Earlier in the day, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had also appealed to them not to disrupt the inaugural function.

He had even offered to meet them and intervene with his central bosses, assuring to convince them about their demand.

The striking students have a simple demand: appoint a competent person as the director, not a party henchman who is equally incompetent.

The students have also announced to screen two films they produced during the strike, at the IFFI.

Disrupting IFFI Inaugural was sincerely stupid. FTII Students, stop behaving like hooligans. I completely agree with your demands, bt ur actions make ths protest a very shallow affair. Sad!

139 days to attend to a greviance, one could easily be solved ...what is this present Govt trying to actually accomplish by installing their selected cronies in key positions in institutes that there tobnurture free thinking, without undue interference? Why? This is the 21st Century guys...
