Rane-Luizinho interrogated by ACB in SEZ land scam

Former chief minister Pratapsing Rane and former Industries minister Luizinho Faleiro, both opposition Congress leaders, were interrogated today by the Anti-Corruption Branch of Goa police.

The ACB official recorded their statements in the case of alleged scam of land allotment for the Special Economic Zone during Congress regime.

The case was officially filed by Goa Industrial Development Corporation, after BJP came to power in 2012.

Both Rane and Faleiro have denied having played any role in allotment of land for the SEZ, in a clarification given to the ACB, said SP Bosco George.

He however refused to furnish further details.

Both the veteran Congressmen have taken a common stand that the decision to allot the land was taken by the Board of Directors of the GIDC and the government had no role to play in land allotment.

 

However, in two separate cases of land allotment, the ACB have found remarks put in writing by Rane and Faleiro, asking the GIDC to consider allotting them land.

Both the Congress leaders however learnt to have admitted the fact, but stated the BoD of GIDC did not have any compulsion to oblige them and act accordintly.

The GIDC is an autonomous corporation, having no obligation to listen to the government, the leaders have reportedly stated.

All the SEZ, during Digambar Kamat’s five-year Congress regime from 2007 onwards, were ultimately scrapped, following state-wide public outcry.

The case, filed by the GIDC, goes back to pre-2007 Congress regime, when Rane was the CM.

Rane is presently the opposition leader while Faleiro is the president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
