Arlekar to be minister on 1 Oct, Shet Speaker, Vishnu Dy Speaker

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 29 September 2015 22:44 IST

It’s official! Speaker Rajendra Arlekar will be the minister now on 1 October. Anant Shet will be elevated as the speaker and Vishnu Wagh would replace him as the deputy speaker.

The announcement in this regard was made by chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, in the presence of defence minister Manohar Parrikar.

Parsekar spoke to the media tonight during a dinner hosted for the ministers and MLAs, only belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He also hinted at a ‘minor’ reshuffle of portfolios, since Arlekar is a new entrant in the cabinet.

After confabulations, considerations and reconsiderations, Parsekar has finally decided only to fill the vacancy created by Mickky Pacheco, the Goa Vikas Party leader, presently serving a six-month jail term.

The chief minister did not speak anything about reshuffle of the cabinet, which was considered earlier.

There was a strong demand from within the party cadres to drop PWD minister Sudin Dhawalikar while some were demanding parting away with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.

MGP is having both Dhawalikar brothers as the ministers in the BJP-led coalition government.

Arlekar, a two-time MLA, would be the minister for the first time.

Similarly, Wagh would be the only one-time BJP MLA to have a red beacon car with a cabinet-rank post of deputy speaker.

While Arlekar would be sworn in as the minister on 1 October after he resigns from the post of the speaker tomorrow, a special session will have to be convened to elect the new speaker and the deputy speaker.

Arlekar was earlier tipped to be the chief minister, when Parrikar stepped down to take responsibility at national level as the defence minister.

It is good to know that Shri Rajendra Arlekar has been inducted, but at the same time it is sad that the talent and respected image of such a senior person who was the speaker of Goa not been utilized. On one hand the BJP boast about development in the states and on the other hand a senior party leader with a clean image has to suffer because of petty politics and ego of the CM. The way things are moving it seems that the remote of the CM is held from Delhi by one person and that powers and portfolios have been held by one CM. If the CM is so capable then why does the BJP need its elected representatives in the party. Let CM only handle all the relevant departments, please don't take educated people for granted. You have been given one chance but instead of proving it all are busy with gaining POWER. Remember Mr. Modi is not a magician and by giving this kind of behavior and not allotting portfolios to everyone you are spoiling the image and reputation and the promise of fulfillment of Modiji. Everyone has voted keeping Mr Modi in mind and none of these elected representatives which has been experienced by the CM in the grampanchayat elections. Please keep this in mind and work to achieve the Dreams of Shri Modiji and move toward one man one post only. UNITED YOU WILL STAND DIVIDED YOU WILL FALL. Education has been emphasized in Goa so please stop taking the people for a joy ride and decide. I hope my message will reach to one and all Goans. Iam not a Goan but my heart is for Goa. Arlekarji they will have to learn to utilize your worth or will FAIL AND FALL. Congratulation Shri Arlekarji

Congratulations to Arlekar Sir and Anant Shet. They deserve it for serving BJP. But it is ridiculous to see the selfish Wagh as deputy speaker. He does not deserve it. BJP party members should oppose to Wagh deputy speaker posting. He is a crooked politician with self interest gain
