Huballi farmers stone shops, Mhadei stir turns violent in Karnataka
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 09 September 2015 19:28 IST

Protests in Huballi-Dharwad region of Karnataka have started turning violent, demanding diversion of Mhadei waters to Karnataka.
Different organisations are mobilising farmers and blocking main junctions on the highways while the dispute over water diversion is pending before the Mhadei water dispute tribunal.
Farmers, who are short of water for drinking and irrigation, are demanding that Mhadei water be diverted to river Malprabha through Kalsa-Banduri canal built by Karnataka government, in spite of the high court and tribunal staying it.
The agitation has started spreading in the villages especially after the high level all-party delegation led by Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah to Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not bear any fruits.
