Goa government has declared state mourning for three days on the sad demise of former chief minister Dr Wilfred de Souza.
He breathed his last today morning at Manipal Hospital, where he was shifted in a critical condition last night.
His funeral would be held on Sunday, 6 September at Saligao Church at 10.30 am.
Due to state mourning, all the government programmes, from today to Sunday, have been cancelled.
Dr de Souza has served the state as the chief minister twice, deputy chief minister thrice and even as the opposition leader once, during his 40-year long stormy political career.
Besides an intelligent politician known for his political master strokes, Dr Willy was also an equally renowned surgeon.
He loved his medical profession as much as politics.
Dr Willy was born in Kampala, Uganda on 23 April 1927, to Dr Tito Fermino de Souza and Alina Ana Maria de Souza
He has been credited with being one of Goa's most skilled surgeons and holds a double FRCS.
He was married to the British-origin nurse Grace, who has worked silently in serving the people.
