GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 26 August 2015 22:33 IST

Goa Chief Minister has urged Karnataka Chief Minister to take stern action against the miscreants who burnt down Goa’s Kadamba bus in Dharwad and prevent such incidents in future.

While Goa and Karnataka are presently fighting a court battle over diversion of Mhadei waters to Karnataka, the agitation in Karnataka turned violent today, burning down Goa’s public transport bus.

In response to this, Goa’s CM Laxmikant Parsekar wrote a letter to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, seeking his personal intervention in furthering good relations between the two states.

He has also suggested to his Karnataka to have patience and be ready to accept the verdict of the Tribunal, which is presently hearing the Mhadei water dispute case.

The letter stated as follows:

“I am shocked to learn that some miscreants have burnt a bus of Kadamba Transport Corporation at Dharwad in Karnataka today. The incident is indeed very unfortunate and totally uncalled for.

Hundreds of people belonging to Karnataka live in Goa for their livelihood. Similarly, number of Goans work in various cities of Karnataka. Karnataka and Goa are neighbouring states and have enjoyed very good relations over the years.

As neighbouring state, we may have some contentious issues, disagreements, claims and counter claims. There have been disagreements between Goa and Karnataka on utilising water from Mahadayi basin for long time. Finally, on the directions of Apex Court, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, has constituted Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal and the matter is pending before the Hon’ble Tribunal. The states are presently pleading their cases. We need to have patience and be ready to accept the verdict of the Hon’ble Tribunal. Any other means to find a solution, should be within the framework of the Constitution of India.

I would earnestly request you to take exemplary and stringent action against the miscreants immediately. Further, necessary directions may be issued to all concerned to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Your personal intervention will go a long way in building confidence amongst the people and in furthering good relations between the two states.

Warm regards,

Yours sincerely,

Laxmikant Parsekar"
