I'm not acting like fascist Gestapo: Goa BJP CM

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today denied of having acted as a fascist Gestapo in the Louis Berger bribery case, an allegation made by opposition leader Pratapsing Rane.
However, the chief minister preferred to maintain silence over Rane’s demand to hand over investigations to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The CM and other members had strongly proposed a CBI inquiry into the bribery case, with a special discussion in the ongoing Assembly session last week.
With politicians started getting arrested in the case, Rane today raised a point of order when the session started, alleging that the BJP government is involved in character assassination of opposition members, taking advantage of the bribery case investigations.
While former Congress minister Churchill Alemao is already behind the bars, former chief minister Digambar Kamat has applied for anticipatory bail, fearing arrest.
Rane had even attended a public gathering of Kamat’s supporters in Margao on 5 August, alleging that the government is acting like a dictator.
“The behaviour of the government reminds me of Ajento Monteiro during Portuguese regime”, said Rane once again in the House.
He also objected to unnecessarily dragging the name of Vijay Sardesai, opposition independent MLA, into the bribery case.
CM Parsekar however reminded Rane that Vijay’s name was dragged into the case by Digambar Kamat, who had alleged that the police are now trying to implicate the Fatorda MLA.
“Tell me one instance when I have named any politician in the case. The police are investigating and I have given them free hand, with no interference”, said Parsekar.
He also brought to the notice of the House that the mention of minister’s involvement in taking bribes was made by the officials of Louis Berger International Inc., first in the USA before the court and then by former officials of India, in the Goa court.
“Why are you blaming me for what they have said? Let the truth come out. I won’t interfere, but will also not spare the culprits, if found guilty”, Parsekar told the House.
When Rane raised the point of picking up politicians at night which amounts to harassment, Parsekar however assured that none of the suspects would be unnecessarily harassed during the probe.
