Why is Cong not acting against double-faced Mauvin?

“My party is free to take action against me. But I will not support the hypocrisy and match fixing of opposition leader Pratapsing Rane”, Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho has said.

He did not walk out along with his party colleagues from the Assembly today.

It was a clear signal that the one, who always claimed to be a ‘loyalist’ of Congress party and the Nehru-Gandhi family, has no love left for the party, which shaped him up right from his student days.

In fact his act of sitting behind in the House was contrary to what Jennifer Monseratte, wife of Babush, did.

Though Babush has been expelled from the Congress and sits in the House as an unattached member, Jennifer staged a walk out after demanding resignation of industries minister Mahadev Naik.

Naik has allegedly taken (and paid) low-interest government loan,  meant for a residential house, and purchased commercial shops.

“Is it an issue to be taken up? It’s a non-issue. What’s a big deal if he used the loan amount to buy shops? He has paid the loan”, feels Mauvin.

According to him, using house loan for commercial purpose is not a valid argument since even a residential house can be rented out for commercial purpose.

“They are not taking up real issues”, he blames Rane for it.

But when asked what the real issues are, Mauvin backtracks: “They know it better”.

He even criticised his party colleagues and the leader for making a fiasco of the issue of Mahadev Naik, flaying that the whole action was over within a few minutes.

Alex Reginald Lawrenco, one of the most aggressive Congress legislators, however does not approve of Mauvin’s action.

“He doesn’t even attend our legislature party meetings”, says Lawrenco, but throws the ball in the court of his leader in the House.

He wants Rane to take a call in this.

But Mauvin is confident Rane will not act against him.

“Mr Rane is scared that he would lose his position as the opposition leader if they expel me and the number further reduces to mere seven”, says the rebel Congressman.

The nine-member Congress was reduced to eight after Babush Monseratte was expelled from the party for hobnobbing with the ruling BJP.

Is Mauvin acting so fearlessly because he also ultimately plans to join the BJP?

“I have already said it earlier. I will contest my next election on the BJP ticket”, the Congress legislator made it clear.

In fact, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar even casually referred him today as “amcho manis” (our man)!
