Babush finally expelled from Cong, others to follow

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 11 March 2015 14:28 IST

St Cruz MLA Babush Monseratte has been expelled from the Congress party for six years, on the grounds of indiscipline.

Babush is the first MLA to be expelled from the party while more expulsions are expected to be followed.

The action has reduced the strength of the Congress to eight in the 40-member House while Babush would continue in the Assembly as an unattached member.

Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho may be the next MLA to be expelled as he has been found hobnobbing openly with the BJP.

According to Goa Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sunil Kawathankar, the action in this regard was taken by Congress President Sonia Gandhi on 3rd March.

However, the intimation reached the Goa office today morning and has been conveyed to Babush.

He was charged of anti-party activity during recently held Panaji bye-election, supporting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Siddharth Kuncalienker while opposing Surendra Furtado, the official party candidate.

“Gandhi has agreed to the proposal/resolution of the executive committee of GPCC for taking stern disciplinary action against all the party leaders who have worked against the party and are committing acts of indiscipline”, stated Kawathankar.

Babush, on several occasions, had said he does not bother about any action against him.

“I don’t need the Congress party, the party needs me”, he had said.

His wife Jennifer is also the MLA of Taleigao, the home constituency of Monserattes.

The GPCC had proposed action against Babush in its meeting held on 17 February.

Monseratte has earlier quit the Congress to join the BJP as well as the United Goans Democratic Party.

He has held several portfolios as the minister, including town and country planning, when his Regional Plan 2011 had resulted into a historic people’s agitation in 2006.

Honest Congress MLAs, Supporters, Volunteers should merge with AAP to stop BJP from Ghar Wapsi. If BJP wins in Goa again then Ghar Wapsi along with Love Jihad will be in full swing. AAP has more chances to win in Goa then Congress like in Delhi. Congress will not win more than 5 Seats in Goa, so better Congress merge with AAP to stop Ghar Wapsi of BJP.
