Union cabinet issue dead for time being, claims Parrikar
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 05 November 2014 21:29 IST

Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar has claimed that the issue of his induction into the union cabinet is “dead” for the time being.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed only Goa issues with me and nothing about the union cabinet,” he told the media after meeting the PM late tonight.
This was a comment conflicting Parrikar’s earlier reaction to the media after meeting BJP president Amit Shah.
After meeting Shah, he told the national media that only prime minister could speak about his cabinet and the issue would be clear only after meeting Modi.
However, after meeting Modi at 8 pm tonight, Parrikar denied that any discussion had taken place on cabinet induction.
"There was no discussion with the Prime Minister about any role in the Cabinet. I am still the Goa Chief Minister," he told the media.
However, speculations were ripe in the national capital since the Goa chief minister had met the PM as well as several other union ministers last week to sort out different Goa issues.
He did not tell the national media what different Goa issues were discussed with the PM, which remained to be discussed last week.
Sources within the BJP circles however are not denying that the news of his possible induction in the union cabinet is false.
“There is definitely something going on, but cannot say whether it would come true”, a source disclosed to goanews.com.
It is learnt that Parrikar’s name has come to the fore prominently due to RSS intervention.
The expansion of union cabinet is on the cards before the winter session begins on 24 November.
Modi reportedly plans to hand over defense portfolio from union finance minister Arun Jaitley to another senior leader from the party.
The final decision in this regard however would be taken only after Maharashtra cabinet is finalized while also finding a right replacement for Parrikar in Goa.
