Parrikar Govt has suppressed mining impact report: Gadgil

Noted ecologist Madhav Gadgil today alleged that the state's BJP government has "suppressed" his report assessing the impact of mining on environment in Goa.

"State government had commissioned a committee led by me to prepare a report on assessment of mining impact on environment in Goa. We had submitted the report in last October. The report is based on two-year long careful work. It is with the government and they are not making it public. They are suppressing the report," Prof Madhav Gadgil, who heads the committee, told PTI here. 

The erstwhile Digambar Kamat-led government had roped in Gadgil to assess the impact on environment due to mining activity in the coastal state. 

Though contents of the report are not known, according to reports Gadgil had accused a number of mining companies of lying in their submission before the Union Environment and Forests Ministry. 

Gadgil had also chaired the Western Ghat Ecology Expert Panel which in its report has demarcated eco-sensitive areas in the region.

 

However, the state government had refused to accept the report, with Environment Minister Alina Saldanha saying they will commission their own study in this regard. 

However, Gadgil said he had no faith in the reports prepared by the state government. 

"Our experience is that the government statistics are by and large fraudulent. I have no faith in audit done by the state government. They may conduct it (audit) in non-participatory and non-transparent fashion," he said, adding that, the assessment by the panel under him was transparent and participatory in nature. 

On his report, Gadgil said extensive assessment of ground situation and field work had gone into preparing the document.

Then came road connecting Karnataka and Maharashtra passing thru western ghats thereby destroying the ecology. Then the Mormugao Harbour and the Airport at Dabolm. We should not rest with stoppage of mines but all the above projects too to make Goa peaceful like graveyard.

The only Environmental Impact Assessment that will eventually matter, is that conducted and visualised by Goa`s CM ,Mr Parrikar.

As Goans have now learnt, that after all, Mr Parrikar has become "ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN". Whether Corrupt or non-corrupt.

I wonder what Mr Parrikars eventual reward is , for polishing the boots of the Miners?.

As for the Rs 35000 crore (or any other figure of your choice) estimated to have been illegally siphoned off by the Miners, we should assume they have just done so for our "Safe-Keeping".

In due course every Goan will receive a share of it with compounded interest.

Environment Ministry Of Goa Will Make Report On Environment In Goa, Which Suited Their Government And Not As Per The Wishes Of Goans. So It Is Always Better To Have Honest NGO, Committee, Commission Or SIT To Make Report On Mining, Environment, SEZ, RP, Etc.

It is never expected that any Government in Goa, be it BJP or Congress will ever reveal the full truth about the environmental desecration and damage caused in Goa due to mining.

There is a well known idiom which states,that "one should never bite the hands that feed you".

It is a well known fact that both the Political Party's in Goa are sponsored and financed by the Mining Barons.

In addition to the Party being sponsored & financed by the Miners, it is also a known fact that many MLA`s too are bribed into submission,by the Mining Barons via their lobbies & had cash.

If anyone thinks that the Advocate General of Goa sides with the People, they are highly mistaken.. The AG to has his pockets (and ego too) well fed & garnished by the Miners .

Like everything in Goa, it is only the Supreme Court that will be the best arbiter of fairness & justice.

Mr Parrikar too , has been blatantly deceiving Goans in the last 2 years. The trust level placed on Mr Parrikar is on a downward slope.

Instead of taking Goa to his "Promised Land", he is burying Goa & Goans into a "Hell Hole" .

All the promises made by Mr Parrikar to Goa & Goans thus far, have proved to be laced , constructed & delivered with utter deceit.

His sins of Omissions & Commissions are now as common as his favourite phrase, " World Class" & State of the ART" ..

I have a problem with Foxes ( & wolves too). They alert all my available senses.

When the traits & movements of a fox are also inherent & witnessed in a human being, as is frequently demonstrated by Goa`s C.M., Mr Parrikar, one has to keep their senses equally alert ,if not doubly alert.

That beauty , which nature has created ( as Goa is ) and man has destroyed ( as Goa has been ), will have severe consequences in future.

Goan Politicians are not well known to beautify Goa. They are better known to beautify their Bank Balances( including foreign) & false egos.
