What to change in MMDR act is yet to be decided: Parrikar
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 July 2014 17:40 IST

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has said the central government has not yet decided in what manner the MMDR act would be changed to resolve the mining impasse.
“We will sit and decide about it later, but the act would be changed, if necessary”, he said, when contacted to ask for details in this regard.
Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, in his maiden budget speech, said the centre would change the MMDR act, if necessary, to resolve the impasse of iron ore mining.
Parrikar agreed that Goa had also made a suggestion in this regard as it would help to resume mining.
“We need more clarity on the issue, thus we need to discuss it further”, he clarified.
The whole mining sector is run mainly with a regulation through Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
