Is there land left for IIT & Convention Centre: Cong
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 July 2014 17:29 IST

Goa’s opposition Congress has asked whether surplus land is available to build IIT or a convention centre while ridiculing the centre for not announcing financial relief to mining dependents.
Reacting to the announcement of union finance minister Arun Jaitley about setting up IIT and building world class convention centre, Goa Congress spokesperson Durgadas Kamat asks: “does Goa have surplus land?”
He also recalls the statement of Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar made on 13 June last year that he would not allow central government projects in Goa.
“Doesn't the statement of CM contradict the statements made in Budget with respect to IIT and Convention centre”, he asks.
Kamat has also alleged that the BJP has fooled Goans by assuring financial package for mining dependents as well as special status while the budget speech had no mention of both.
He also added that the central government has taken U turn on its election promises to raise income tax exemption limit to Rs five lakh, the announcement made by Jaitley in Amritsar on 20 April.
“This budget is just a trailer of U Turns in first 45 days of coming to power,” he said.
