Konkani Sangeet Sammelan preparations begin

Rather than mere sangeet sammelan held in the state otherwise, khajekar and bhajekar will bring a special Goenkar flavour to the first-ever All India Konkani Sangeet Sammelan, scheduled on 9-10 February, at the Ravindra Bhavan site in Margao.
The 15,000 sq. feet area, opposite Fatorda stadium, will actually have a look of any typical Goan jatra or fest. The only difference is that rather than deities, disciples will flock to listen to their musical deities - the Konkani musicians and singers, who have acclaimed honour at national and international level.
The preparation to erect series of pandals has begun with Goa’s music maestro, Dr Malbarao Sardesai, performing bhoomipujan on Tuesday at the site.
Rajendra Talak, the creative artist from Margao, has designed the main pandal in a unique way, including the main stage. Besides this, it will also have two or three typical angan around it, where musicians and folk artists would perform at the sammelan.
Besides several stalls for books and musical cassettes and instruments, the sammelan will have a special stall of Goa’s ethnic musical instruments.
The organisers have also invited Vivekanand Kala Sadarikaran Manch of Sattari to put up a khopti of traditional equipment, which became a special attraction at the recently concluded seventh Goa Yuva Mahotsav.
Taking the bhoomipujan as an occasion, Srinivas Dempo, Chairman of the Sammelan along with vice chairman and minister Digambar Kamat and others paid special visit to the site and reviewed all the arrangements.
Konkani Bhasha Mandal president, Damodar Mauzo, sammelan vice president M S Prabhu, Chandrakant Keni, Uday Bhembre, co-ordinator Sunil Prabhudesai, Ulhas Buyao, organising secretary Dr Rajendra Hegde, Madhav Pandit, Pandurang Naik, Prof. Shyam Verenkar, Saish Palondicar, Purnanand Chari, Anil Pai and others were also present on the occasion.
