Sardinha to support Shalom, calls Congmen looters

Sitting Congress MP Francisco Sardinha has finally decided to oppose the party and support his son Shalom as a candidate in South Goa Lok Sabha election.
He was denied the ticket last minute, making his arch political rival and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco the Congress candidate.
Addressing a workers’ meeting, Sardinha came down heavily on his own party, calling it a party of thieves and looters.
He also attacked independent Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, calling his fixer of the Congress party, confirming the rumour that Sardesai had played a major role in changing the candidate last minute.
“It is high time we teach a lesson to the Congress party”, said Sardinha, who is still the member of the national party he has represented since he became the Curtorim MLA in 1977.
In between, he had revolted against the party and joined hands with the BJP in 1999 to become the short-lived chief minister.
After denying the ticket, Sardinha felt that the Congress had lost in five states because it had given ticket to wrong persons.
“I have no issues if not given a ticket, but choose a fresh face, why a sitting MLA”, he asked.
Stating that he would support a real secular minded person, Sardinha finally announced that he would support candidature of his son Shalom.
Shalom quit the Congress after his father was denied the ticket.
Sardinha has been the MP for three terms – in 1998 for one year, in 2007 for two years and then for five years since 2009.
