The Congress has finally reversed its own decision, paving way to Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco to try his chance from South Goa while denying ticket to sitting MP Francisco Sardinha.
The third official list of 58 candidates announced by the Congress today named former chief minister Ravi Naik from North Goa and Lourenco from South Goa.
Sardinha, the three-time MP, has been denied the fourth chance.
He is replaced by Lourenco, who had defeated him in 2007 Assembly election and has been the MLA for two consecutive terms.
Sardinha, who had defected from the Congress to join hands with the BJP and become the chief minister in 1999, was elected the MP once in 1998, along with Ravi from the North.
After he was defeated by Lourenco in 2007 election, he was elected the South Goa MP the same year and was then re-elected in 2009.
The third list features two names from Arunachal Pradesh, two names from Chhattisgrah, five names from Delhi, two from Goa, eight names from Gujarat, three from Haryana, two from Jharkhand, two from Karnataka, three from Madhya Pradesh, four from Maharashtra, two for Odisha, 15 names from Rajasthan; and one name each from Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal and Daman & Diu.
So far, the Congress has declared the name of 236 candidates.
