Party didn't invite me for the Modi rally: Wagh
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 January 2014 23:41 IST
My party neither invited me for the Narendra Modi’s rally nor sent me the coupon books to register delegates, thus I did not go for the Vijay Sankalp Rally, said St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh.
The rebel BJP MLA also said he had fear of being attacked again since the assailants, who attacked him last month, were still not arrested and the party had not given him enough support.
Wagh not attending the Modi rally had become an issue of debate among political circles.
The rumour is still strong that Wagh is planning to quit the saffron brigade, in order to contest Lok Sabha election from North Goa on the ticket of the Nationalist Congress Party.
He was last month attacked by BJP workers from Tivim while returning from Kirtan Mahotsav, organised by a temple committee, at the behest of local NCP chief Nilkanth Halarnkar.
“Not a single person from among the assailants has been arrested so far in spite of identifying the persons and providing all the names to the police”, said Wagh, when media persons asked him in this regard at Kala Academy press conference.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in fact had publicly said that names given by Wagh were actually provided by Halarnkar, of his political opponents.
“How in such a condition I can go for the rally when I was not even invited for the rally”, asked Wagh.
The historic Modi rally was attended even by other supporting MLAs of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and few independents.
Wagh was the only BJP MLA, who neither attended the rally nor mobilised people for it.
He also denied that around 4000 people had attended the rally from St Andre.
“Only 200 party workers had gone”, he claimed.
He also said that the huge gathering at the rally does not mean that it would actually translate into votes.
BJP local president Vinay Tendulkar has already said the party would seek explanation from him regarding not attending the crucial party rally.
