Is Wagh using wife-shield to take Parrikar head on?

Aruna Vishnu Wagh accusing CM of giving 'supari'

Is St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh taking the BJP leadership, including chief minister Manohar Parrikar, head on within the party or is it yet another step towards exiting from the saffron brigade to contest Lok Sabha poll on the ticket of the Nationalist Congress Party?

The question has arisen especially after Aruna Wagh, wife of Vishnu, has publicly alleged that Parrikar and BJP’s organizing secretary Satish Dhond gave ‘supari’ to their Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar to physically attack Wagh.

Instead of creating a terror with the action, the attack has boomeranged on the BJP (if at all if the party is involved in it) with all the political parties and even social organizations have gathered around Wagh.

The allegation that the BJP leadership is involved in the attack had to be believed since Wagh himself held his party colleague Kandolkar responsible for the attack on him.

Wagh’s car was damaged and he was manhandled on night the Goa Liberation Day at Revora when he was returning from Kirtan Mahotsav organized by Mauli Bhootnath Devasthan at Nanora, which is dominated by Kandolkar’s rival and NCP Goa chief Nilkanth Halarnkar.

The organizers had invited Wagh and Halarnkar as well as Fatorda independent MLA Vijay Sardesai, but not local BJP MLA Kandolkar.

While Wagh the same night named Kandolkar for masterminding the attack, his wife Aruna, at the Mapusa police station, shouted at BJP’s organizing secretary Satish Dhond, accusing him of conspiring.

She even held hands of two Bhandari Samaj leaders, including its state president Anil Hoble, and warned Dhond of showing ‘power of Bhandaris’ if the BJP leadership continues such actions against her husband.

In the past, the party leadership has warned Wagh for his rhetorics against party’s policies and criticizing the government on several occasions.

Wagh, on the other hand, has publicly admitted his disappointment for not making him the minister in spite of having a caliber.

The writer-turned politician today enjoys chairmanship of Kala Academy, Goa’s most prestigious institution as well as the post of a vice chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa.

In order to silence him, Parrikar even announced to elevate him as the chairman, giving up his own post, but later retracted by making him only the chairman of the Governing Body since Wagh’s criticism continued.

Perhaps Wagh would be made the ESG chairman after Lok Sabha election, provided he does not quit the party to contest on the NCP ticket from North Goa, against his own Bhandari leader and three-time MP Shripad Naik.

As politicians from all the parties gathered around Wagh at a public meeting held in his St Andre constituency on Sunday, Congress heavyweight Churchill Alemao demanded that Wagh be made a minister.

Though the BJP leadership is fuming with cross sections getting mobilized around Wagh, they have no other option than condemning the attack on Wagh, their own MLA by their own party workers.

The information gathered by goanews.com reveals that the assailants are primarily known rivals of NCP leader and former Tivim MLA Halarnkar rather than supporters of Kandolkar.

Previously, the same group was supporting former Congress MLA Dayanand Narvekar, who later shifted to Aldona, leaving his workers to continue their rivalry with Halarnkar, till Kandolkar came into picture.

Though Wagh’s wife Aruna continues accusing the BJP leadership for playing revenge politics against her husband, Wagh doesn’t utter a single word.

“I am as cool as ice”, he claims.

Sources close to the BJP rebel however disclosed to goanews.com that he would wait for 10 more days to see the outcome of the police investigations (as hardly one person has been arrested so far), before taking a step ahead.

Though it is still not clear whether Wagh would exploit this incident to make a public case to quit the party and contest Lok Sabha election on NCP ticket, it is crystal clear at this moment that he has created enough nuisance value within the party.

It would be ‘wait and watch’ whether the party leadership including the chief minister surrenders before the nuisance value (reminding Congress chief ministers surrendering to Alemao’s nuisance) or desert him to his fate.

The New Year may thus decide the fate of Wagh, who would lose hefty posts of Kala Academy as well as the ESG, besides losing the privilege of being the legislator of the ruling party, if he quits.

500 hundred years ago Indians were fighting Indians . It was cut-throat...until the Portuguese & ( British) stepped in.

500 hundred years later, the battles have resumed.

I wonder what`s the solution??.

Criminality & egotistical posturing, amongst the Ruling Classes (many illiterate & uneducated) is rampant.

Many of the ruling class in Goa do not even understand about the wider world out there. They rather continue living in their feudal caves.

As for Mr Wagh, as much as I condone the uncivilised attack on him, he has brought much of this, upon himself with his constant & despeaate need to seek attention by making crazy & ill thought of , criticisms of anything and everything. He behaves like the guy who knows ach & everthing.

His desire to be a Minister has strong financial connotations. He has been rather shy to declare his assets. I wonder why?

Having won the BJP seat, he now believes he is a Goa "Superman" and being a Team Player is not essential.
