Wagh manhandled by his "BJP" colleagues in Tivim
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 19 December 2013 22:07 IST
Chairman of Kala Academy and BJP legislator from St Andre was attacked by miscreants tonight while returning from Kirtan Mahotsav organised by Goa state NCP chief Nilkanth Halarnkar.
The incident occurred at Revora village in Tivim constituency.
Wagh has alleged that he was attacked by the supporters of Kiran Kandolkar, his party colleague and MLA representing Tivim constituency.
Halarnkar, the former Tivim MLA, condemned the attack.
While returning from the Mahotsav held at Mauli Bhootnath Devasthan in Nanora, Wagh said his car was stopped and smashed by a crowd of around 70 people, who also pulled him out of the car and manhandled.
The crowd was carrying black flags, sticks, lathis and even iron rods.
Some of them, said Wagh, were asking him why he had attended the function organised by the NCP president Halarnkar.
"I tried to tell them that it was not a political function but a cultural festival, where i was inivited as the Kala Academy chairman", said Wagh.
Wagh later filed a police complaint, before he was admitted to the Goa Medical College hospital.
Kandolkar however has denied his hand in the incident.
The BJP cadres are presently furious as rumours are quite strong that Wagh is planning to contest Lok Sabha poll on the NCP ticket.
While he has denied the rumour throughout, Wagh said he was invited for the Bhajan competition as the chairman of Kala Academy and it had no political connection.
