Goa to get Rs 300 Cr from dump site conversion fee
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 30 October 2013 22:06 IST

Goa government is expecting around Rs 300 crore from conversion fee from iron ore dump sites, of which Rs 194 crore has already come to the treasury.
The process of collecting rest of the amount – around Rs 100 crore – has however been postponed by over a month, due to the ongoing mining ban case in the Supreme Court.
The government had earlier set a deadline to mining firms to pay land conversion fees by 3 November for the land used for dumps all these years.
Accordingly, says chief minister Manohar Parrikar, almost 59 mining firms have paid around Rs 194 crore towards the conversion fees.
However, the state cabinet today decided to extend the date up to 3 January, with a last date to apply by 10 December.
“We have accepted the request in view of the ongoing Supreme Court hearing where even officials of mining firms are busy with”, said Parrikar.
Around 41 land sites are still pending, for which the conversion fees are not paid till date.
Parrikar had threatened to take over the dumps if mining firms don’t come forward to pay the conversion fees for the land used to dump the iron ore, mostly rejects.
He had also clarified that charging conversion fees does not mean a license to allow export of iron ore.
