Narvekar to be chargesheeted in GCA land scam: CM
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 15 October 2013 18:49 IST

Former chairman of Goa Cricket Association Dayanand Narvekar has mismanaged government funds of over Rs 10 crore in a land scam and all the guilty would be chargesheeted by March next year, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar today.
He intervened to reply to a question raised by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte with regard to pending action against the report regarding GCA irregularities.
According to Parrikar, the report of the two member committee, comprising of Anil Lawanis and Chetan Desai, is not very strong.
But Narvekar got the land worth Rs 10.98 crore transferred from education department to IT department, to be handed over ultimately to the GCA in a completely fraudulent manner, said the chief minister.
The crime branch of Goa police is investigating the whole matter and we should be able to file chargesheet by 31 March, said Parrikar.
While Khaunte as well as another independent Vijay Sardesai kept on demanding time frame to take action on the report, Parrikar assured to chargesheet them in a land scam.
Khaunte in fact pointed out that the government is sitting on the report for almost two years, when the report was submitted within two months.
Sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar earlier refused to give a time frame to take action, stating that the Registrar of Co-operative Societies is studying every clause to understand the irregularities.
While funds are allegedly being mismanaged, he said it is a matter to be acted upon by the GCA since they have raised their own funds.
The Registrar of Co-operative Societies is studying all the clauses minutely before taking action against irregularities committed during Narvekar’s tenure.
While Tawadkar claimed the government has a very limited role, Khaunte demanded that the GCA be de-recognised by the Sports Authority of Goa.
“We are losing international cricket matches in Goa due to one man”, commented Khaunte.
