BJP accused of sidelining local MLAs in social schems

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 09 October 2013 22:08 IST

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was today accused of party workers distributing cheques of Kanyadan schemes, sidelining the system of routing it through the local MLAs.

Women and Child Development minister Dilip Parulekar was literally grilled by the members and chief minister Manohar Parrikar had to rush for his rescue.

Congress as well as independent MLAs accused the government of diverting the cheques to the BJP party offices to gain political benefit.

On the forefront was Porvorim independent MLA Rohan Khaunte, who otherwise supports the ruling coalition government.

Parulekar in fact expressed surprise over Khaunte accusing the government when he claims to be on the ruling side.

The issue was finally resolved with Parrikar assuring that the list of sanctioned beneficiaries would be emailed to all the MLAs, so that no such ‘confusion’ prevails.

The debate during the Question Hour began with Khaunte raising a case of Ana Maria D’Silva, whose cheque was delivered to another Ana Maria F D’Silva, through the Porvorim office of the BJP.

“The issue was settled only after I raised the issue in the Assembly, after which the police woke up and reached a settlement by calling her and the local BJP workers”, he informed the House.

Both Parrikar and Parulekar however kept on dodging repeated questions by Khaunte and other Congress members of why party workers were distributing the cheques to the beneficiaries.

Parrikar said such issues would not occur in future since the beneficiaries are now paid through electronic transfer to their bank accounts.

“Kanyadan was the old scheme of the Congress government, which did not have such facility”, he said.

He even claimed that his government has cleared all 5185 pending cases of Kanyadan where the beneficiaries were not paid since 2011, even after they got married and had children.

“We had to literally search for their houses since their names as well as their addresses are changed now”, said Parrikar.

Both the CM and the minister however did not comment till the end on why the cheques are distributed through party workers, sidelining the local MLAs.

The function to distribute cheques for beneficiaries of this scheme from Margao & Fatorda constituencies was held in the Margao BJP Office at Sukdow Bhavan, Near MMC Bldg on 2nd July 2013. Dilip Parulekar & State Law Commission Chairman Narendra Sawaikar were present and Sawaikar was kind enough to post the photographs on Facebook. I do not know if the local MLAs were invited but those seen on the dais in the photographs are Damu G Naik, Chandan Naik, Krishni Walke, Devbala Bhise, etc, all from the BJP, with no official Govt standing. No Govt officials are seen. If I can hazard a guess, the photographs must have been taken off Facebook by now, following yesterday's Assembly proceedings.

Dilip Parulekar is nothing but a "Bambi"(a Disney character) of the BJP Party.

He is the MLA that offers Goa & Goans half-baked ideas & schemes.

Tourism under his authority is going to take a few steps backwards...or probably to the "Dark Ages".

This is not the 1st of his many comedy of errors . Neither will it be the last.
