KBM declares annual awards, including Romi & Devnagari literature

Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa’s premier institute of Konkani, today declared its annual awards, which include literary awards in both Devnagari and Romi scripts.

KBM president Chetan Acharya, while announcing the awards, said the awards are announced keeping in tradition of the institution without discriminating between the scripts.

The late Narsinh Damodar Naik Sahitya Puraskar has been awarded to Sharon Fernandes for her novel ‘Handbag’, written in Romi script.

Similarly, late Roque Barreto Yadastik Sahitya Puraskar has been awarded to Harsha Shetye for her travelogue book ‘Anandyatra’, written in Devnagari script.

Yet another award – Konkani Bhasha Mandal’s Sahitya Puraskar – has been awarded to Ajay Buwa for his story collection in Devnagari script – ‘Bavari Radhika.’

Saraswati Naik has been chosen for the award for Children’s literature, given in the name of Manoharrai Sardesai, for her book ‘Pinkoo ani Vasvel’.

The most prestigious Seva Puraskar for the life-time service to Konkani movement has been conferred upon Babay Verenkar, a veteran Konkani activist from Margao.

Dr Madhavi Sardesai, Editor of monthly Jaag, has been chosen for Ligoriyo Furtado Trust Journalism Award of this year.

Vinanti Kansar, a dedicated Konkani teacher, has been chosen for Felicio Cardoz memorial Shikshak Puraskar, sponsored by Serafin Cota.

Similarly, Konkani activist Rajendra Naik has been chosen for the Jose Piedad Quadros Yadastik Konkani Karyakarto Puraskar.

Madhav Bastodkar, a columnist of Sunaparant, has been awarded this year’s Chandrakant Keni Yadastik Stambh Lekhan Puraskar, sponsored by Dinesh Manerikar.

Goa governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo will give all these awards on 30 September in Margao, on the occasion of 51st anniversary of KBM.

The function would be held at Gomant Vidya Niketan at 4.30 pm.

Prior to this, the KBM would conduct its second Adv Arun Singbal Memorial Quiz contest on 28 September at Father Agnel College at Pilar.

The competition is open to all Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges and Goa University.
