Central leaders stalling Goa's special status: NCP

None of the leaders of any political party based in New Delhi are bothered about giving special status to Goa, a senior NCP leader said here on Monday.
NCP Goa's Chief Spokesman Trojano D'Mello told reporters today that every political party in the state wanted special status for Goa, but central leaders are not interested.
D'Mello said that the NCP would lobby for the demand with party leaders like Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel with renewed vigour.
"We will ask Pawar and Patel to raise the issue of special status for Goa with the union government," he said.
The Goa State Legislative Assembly had recently passed resolution demanding special status for the state to protect its land.
The resolution had also made it clear that Goa did not want special status in the form of additional funds.
The spokesman took a dig at Goa's Environment Minister Alina Saldanha who had announced that she would quit the cabinet, if the NDA did not give special status to Goa once it is elected to power.
"These are all election gimmicks. If NDA wants to give special status to Goa, let Narendra Modi announce it right now," he said.
However, D'Mello refused to comment whether the demand would be part of UPA's agenda.
