According to reliable sources, Parrikar announced it at the review meeting of BJP’s ongoig Gaon Chalo Abhiyan, as some supporters have also started lobbying for Damu Naik, former Fatorda MLA, for South Goa.

The supporters have also started a Facebook group – to push his name for the South Goa candidature.

While making the announcement within the cadres to clear the confusion, Parrikar however has reportedly clarified that the official announcement in this regard would be made only after the party’s Central Parliamentary Board clears it.

Naik has been representing North Goa for three consecutive terms since 1999 while Savoikar stood in second position in the last general election held in 2009.

With the BJP in power in the state today, hopes in the BJP cadres have raised of winning both the seats due to which the saffron party is presently witnessing infighting over candidature.

On the other hand, Damu is the only former MLA who lost Assembly election from Fatorda while all the other former BJP MLAs, who contested, entered the Assembly once again.
