Mehendale to be CIC, along with 2 SICs
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 29 July 2013 23:57 IST

Retired IAS officer Leena Mehendale has been selected as Goa’s Cheif Information Commissioner.
Along with her, the high level committee has selected another retired IAS officer Stanley Coutinho and journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai as the State Inforamation Commissioners.
The annoucement was made by chief minister Manohar Parrikar today evening after holding the meeting of high level committee.
The committee comprised of chief minister Parrikar, opposition leader Pratapsing Rane and deputy chief minister Francisco D’Souza.
Parrikar said they would be appointed within a fortnight after all the formalities are complete.
The Goa State Information Commission had been functioning without a single information commissioner since Motilal Keni had completed his term in July last year.
This is the third attempt the Goa government is trying to fill the vacant posts as both the selected persons – Pandurang Nadkarni and Dr Pradeep Padwal – had withdrawn after they were appointed, amidst controversy.]

This is the first time the state government has decided to appoint a CIC, along with two SICs.
All the three posts are for the tenure of five years or till the age of 65 years, whichever comes early.
Mehendale, from Jalgaon in Maharashtra, was born in 1950 and would thus complete her term as CIC by January 2015.
Stanly Coutinho, a Goa-born IAS officer, was born in August 1952 and would thus retire in next four years.
Sandesh Prabhudesai, a journalist for 26 years, was born in 1960 and could thus complete his full term.
As the existing office of the information commission at Shram Shakti Bhavan at Patto has no sufficient place, Parrikar said the new office would be located at the existing office of Mines department, once this office is shifted to a new place.

Goa is unique in Culture and Heritage in the World.
We need Goans for Goans Job, so that they can understand our culture and Heritage and Preserve it for our Future Goans Generations.

With due respects to the retired IAS officer Leena Mehendale, was there not a single Goan who could be selected for the position of Goa’s Chief Information Commissioner?
I am happy on the selection of journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai and retired IAS officer Stanley as the State Information Commissioners.
In view of his age, Prabhudesai, in due course, could become Goa's Chief Information Commissioner.

Well done to all the Appointees for the post of SIC & CIC.
Hope you will serve all Goan Citizens to the best of your abilities and with Dignity ,Honour & Honesty.
Remember Governments (usually very corrupt) always come & go. So please ensure you leave your Goan Compatriots, with a fair, good & sound legacy.
The appointment of Ms. Mahendale may be for a short term. But I trust she will exercise fairness in her dealings.
