Centre not serious about resuming mining: AITUC
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 25 July 2013 21:27 IST

Goa Mining People’s Front feels that the central government is not serious about resuming mining activity in Goa.
GMPF leader Christopher Fonseca today said prime miniser Dr Manmohan Singh has not fulfilled his promise of directing Attorney General to defend the mining ban case of Goa.
“Recently when the matter came up for hearing in the Supreme Court, the central government lawyer was conspiciously absent”, he alleged.
The PM had assured the delegation of GMPF few months ago that the centre would do everything possible to get the mining activity resumed in Goa, especially be telling the Attorney General of India to personally argue the case.
According to Fonseca, it was Goa Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni and AITC lawyer Collin Gonsalves, who vociferously put up the side of mining-affected people.
“I really doubt whether the central government is serious about the matter”, he said.
