Goa denies not sending ESZ data, but opposes beyond 1 km

Goa government has denied that it has not provided complete data of the Ecologically Sensitive Zones around national parks and wild life sanctuaries.
Known popularly as buffer zone, Goa has however suggested one kilometer area from the boundary of wild life sanctuaries and only 100 metres from Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, on the shore of river Mandovi.
“We have sent this data long ago, what they have asked for is something more now”, clarified chief minister Manohar Parrikar today.
He said reports coming from New Delhi, stating that Goa government has not provided ESZ data, are misleading.
As asked by the union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF), Parrikar said even the DGPS, conducted by each mine, has been sent to the ministry.
However, he said, the ministry has now asked to send details of the mining leases vis-à-vis the forest area and not the sanctuaries.
Parrikar however said the DGPS of mines in forests is not possible due to heavy rains.
“We have thus decided to send ground toothing data, which is near perfect but not as perfect as DGPS”, he said.
Parrikar however is firm on not accepting Kasturirangan report, which suggests including major part of Western Ghat in the ESZ.
Kasturirangan panel was set up to study Madhav Gadgil report on Western Ghats.
“If we go by the recommendations of this report, then no economic activity in the Goan hinterland would be possible, not alone mining”, cautioned Parrikar.

If Centre says not sent, let us please send again. Send whatever Centre wants from the state so that mining can start at the earliest and so many people rendered jobless, get back to work.
I know CM is eager to see the mining activity start again but if the state ruled by BJP and Centre by the Congress start fighting, the innocent people will suffer.
There is a saying in Konkani 'MAZRACHO KHELL - UNDRACHEM MORON'. Let this not happen.
It pains to see many people suffer for no fault of theirs.
One km from the boundary of the wild life sanctuaries should be enough keeping in view the size of Goa.
