Be a Smita, if denied half ticket

Smita Chodnekar
Smita Chodnekar, a student of Chowgule College, gave a fitting reply to a private bus conductor, who denied 50 per cent bus concession to the students.
His bus was challenged by the transport authorities and was even not allowed to ply for one day, as transport director Arun Desai swiftly moved into action.
Information revealed that all the buses going to Quepem, Curchorem and Sanguem were diverted via Chandor from Margao yesterday – a long route than usual - as Paddem road had almost submerged under water due to heavy rainfall.
The conductor of GA 02 T 4464 thus refused entry to any student in the bus, stating that he would not entertain half ticket, which he is legally bound to charge to any Identity card holder student.
Smita, studying in the third year Arts at Chowgule College, led a group of around 15 students in the bus with a firm resolution to teach a lesson to the rude conductor.
As expected, the conductor refused to take half ticket and started behaving rudely with all the students, including the girl students.
Smita instantly called up transport director Arun Desai (9860051055) and complained to him about the conductor’s illegal and rude behavior.
“He spoke to me also in a rude manner and tried to misguide me by giving a wrong bus number”, Desai told goanews.com.
While appreciating the brave act of Smita, the transport director ordered the conductor not to harass the students but take only half ticket.
He did not stop there, but called up his subordinate in Quepem and told him to fine the bus with a fine as well as not to allow him to ply the whole day on Thursday.
“The bus operators should know the consequences of refusing to take half ticket”, said Desai.
Meanwhile, Smita, on her Facebook account, is poured with congratulations from her friends for her brave act of fighting for justice.
