Digvijay endorses Dabolim First decision of local Cong

Meeting of Cong workers addressed by Digvijay Singh

It is almost certain now that the opposition Congress had made a volte face on the issue of Mopa air port, with national leader Digvijay Singh also endorsing it.

The Congress Legislature Party had yesterday decided to first assess the capacity of Dabolim air port and then go for a new air port at Mopa.

This is in contrast of the Congress at the centre as well as in Goa taking a stand in support of Mopa as a second air port, while maintaining Dabolim air port.

“We cannot ignore the sentiments of the people if they want only Dabolim”, Singh said today at the press conference.

Has the Congress decided to reconsider its earlier stand?

Digvijay Singh preferred to leave it to the local leadership to decide on the air port controversy.

He however refuted the allegation that the Congress is surrendering to the pressure building in Salcete and part of Mormugao talukas.

“We need to evaluate the issue in totality with a macro view”, he said.

According to him, the party needs to see in what way Dabolim could be used with optimum utilization, before going for a second air port.

He assured to study all the issues, including the prospective air traffic, capacity of Dabolim air port and even the possibility of Dabolim handling big planes to carry international traffic.

He also called upon for a consensus on the issue among all the political parties.

However, when pointed out that there is no consensus within the Congress on the issue, he said differences of opinion could exist but the party would take a unified decision.

Mopa will not only close the Dabolim Airport but also Mopa will make Goans to go hungry with the Drought which will occur by losing the fertile land and farmers. Mopa will take huge fertile land, which will be very bad for Goa. The tragedy happened to the people of Khedernath can happened to the people of Goa, if Mopa starts. Stop Mopa. Save Goa.
